Work done by the 10th June for a operational test.

For the 10th June I had a meeting at my place for the Location NMRA Members, the CCWN group (Centre Coast Wednesday Night Group) So I wanted the Layout Operation for the Meeting. I have to Thank Sam (my Father) Gerry, Ken and Trevor for the Help to get think done for the Night.

The work on the Goulburn south has been going well with the the first yard done. The Mainline south has been extended to the Points 2/3 of the way down the Goulburn South. the Coal storage roads have been install as well but the points to this area but the Slide switches were unable to be done for the Night so we used the front yard only.

The Photo Shows Area for Goulburn Loco has been worked out and the turntable is now in position with a 44 Class showing one of the storage roads. The Round house will only be the back half as I do not have the room for a Full Round house and also so it can be see and Operated from the front also you will see the lower area which is for the Ash pit. the Coaling stage road has to be raised yet and I have to build the 16 bay coaling stage as well.

Sam (My father) has been installing the slide switches in Medway Quarry and Goulburn South thanks Dad.
I had a friend Gerry come over and Help install the Point Motors control boards and decoders that run them We were only able to install the Control for Goulburn North and Medway for the 10th June which work great from the test, Thanks Gerry

Ken and Trevor Help with the wiring, They had the Thankless task of Connecting the dropper from the track work in Medway, Moss vale and Goulburn South to the to the Main and Yard Bus. thanks Guys.

One thing I will now be doing is changing the yard dropper wire colours form Red and Black (same as the Main line droppers) to White and Blue so not to get myself confused with the wiring.

Moss vale has now had all its Points install and the Mainline north in starting to go around to Mittagong.
5725 running Light in Moss Vale going back to Goulburn with a 44 Class following.

Question on What is the White Stuff

The "White Stuff" is High Density Foam.
My Father "Sam" used foam underlay on his layout. It is very easy to use and not that costly, So I have done the same thing with the Main South Line layout.
The foam comes from Solartex Sales@solartex.com.au Sheets are 8' by 2' , but for transport they are cut down to 4' by 2' sheets. I cut them in to 1 & 1/2 " strips and sand the top two edges a little to remove the square corner look and make it easier to Ballast. I normal order 10 sheets at a time. Well back to work.

May 09 South Goulburn started

Early May 2009 already the year is flying by.

I have started laying the foam underlay for Goulburn South track work. The hard part will be to Work out how to fit the 90Ft turntable and coaling stage (both to be built at a later date) in the space I have and still make it look like Goulburn Loco. I did not do the Loco yard on the plans as I was hoping to find some more space for the turntable. I have a Opening in to the workshop that will make it easier to fit the Turntable and Round House.
I have added a Copy of the original drawing of Goulburn Loco just to show how much I have to cut out to fit it in but i hope it still look good. The round house will not be a full one as in the drawing it just takes up to much room. Alot of the Duplicate track will go, one was to duel line to the round house from the station. The Coal stack roads there are 5 on the Plan, but I may only have 2but will still give the Idea of storage tracks.
I Hope to get Goulburn south track layed this month as well as finishing of Moss vale Track work.
We have been busy installing the ANE Point Servos to the Mainline Points and Slide Switches to the yards all of Goulburn North and Medway are done.
With working out Goulburn Loco it has added a Few more Points, so far it has been 15 more Points to take the Total to 382 from 367 points.

As the there will be more to add it looks like it may top the 400 Mark alot of points to build as I have Built 94 so far lots of work to do better get back to it.

April was a slow month.

April has been a slow month having had lots to do away from the layout.

Have started laying the sleeper under the Points which does take a bit of time per point. I used match sticks, once they are painted and ballasted it is hard to tell.

With some sleeper laid I did a test with what colour to paint the sleepers and rail. the colours I have used are from "Floquil" Sleeps are "Railroad Tie Brown" and the Rail is "Rust". the Sleepers are spray painted but the rail are paint witha brush. I was happy with the colours that I done and it matched the photos I have taken at Goulburn Last year.

I have tried ballasting some of the yard at Goulburn North going off the photos I have, It look good. The Yard Ballast is Sieved down 1/4 minus from the local nursery. The large mainline ballast also comes from the same 1/4 Minus but sieved with a slightly larger holed sieve.

The 1/4 minus is $22.50 per bobcat bucket 2 fill the box trailer cheap ballast.

March has been a good Month

This Month we (My father Sam and Me) have been able to build all the rest of the frame work for the Layout the only thing left to do is build the ends of the peninsula upper deck on 3 and both decks on peninsula 2 (bottom will be Bethungra Spiral).

All he track work in "Goulburn North" is down ready to be wired up and have the point motors on the Main line and the slide switches on the rest.

All the point for "Moss Vale" have been made ready to be installed. I have run out of rail joiners again so I only have able a 3rd of "Moss Vale"track laid so far this month.

With "Moss Vale" started and the framework now done I am starting to build the 13 points for Mittagong I am waiting on a order of Foam underlay so I can continue laying track in Mittagong and start South Goulburn as well.

Now that the Main construction is done the whole room was vacuumed to remove all the dust and saw dust from the place its nice to have a clean layout room.

I have to thank My Father Sam for all the Help with the design and building the Layout so far I would not have been able to do it this fast (remember the Layout was started April 2008) or this well designed(eg the way the upper deck is counterlevered) without him thanks Dad. he has his own layout at his Place call "Buff Point Branch" check out the link to have alook at his hand work. http://www.nmra.org.au/Layout_Tours/Sam%20Mangion/indexB.html

Early Feb Works

The Hidden staging return loop is in, as well as the frame work for the whole wall.
The Frame work for the 3rd peninsulas has been started (in the 2nd photo) so we can get the levels right on the back wall. You can see the Bottom deck frame work along the wall in the Photo,

The stack of light fitting on the 2nd Peninsulas are waiting for the pelmet timbers to go up to be install. It is fun how you can start to run out of room in such a large shed. this Photo is from inside the return loops as you can see the Sydney loop at the top of the 3rd Photo.
